India has placed advanced Internet Protocol cameras in three
locations along the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh, Indian officials
told local media.
The cameras have been installed to check infiltration of terrorists, smuggling of fake currencies and human trafficking, they said.
"The results of IP cameras that have been installed at Barni, Sanauli and Rupedhia are encouraging. We are getting good pictures in real time at our Delhi headquarters where they are analysed and necessary instructions are passed back over to our border outposts,” DNA quoted a senior officer of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) as saying.
The news comes as border security officials from Nepal and India hold talks to discuss a number of issues related to smuggling of narcotics and arms, illegal crossings, strengthening of border outposts and a host of other security-related subjects on this open border.
The Nepali delegation led by chief of Armed Police Force Kosh Raj Onta on Monday assured greater cooperation to combat terrorism, arms smuggling, insurgency, smuggling of fake currency and human trafficking, DNA reported.
Reports said both sides have agreed to boost cooperation and information sharing between the enforcement agencies. Director general of SSB Pranay Sahay told Onta that his agency would continue support in training and human capacity building of Nepali enforcement agencies as per request.
