With the extended deadline of seven days to form a government of
national unity expiring in two days, President Ram Baran Yadav on
Tuesday urged political parties to engage in serious discussion to forge
consensus for the same.
During a meeting held in Shital Niwas Tuesday morning, President Yadav alerted the top leaders of major political parties that they may face great embarrassment in front of the people if they again fail to reach an understanding to end the political crisis and pave the way for a unity government.
"The President urged political parties to resolve the political crisis at the earliest. He said it would be a matter of shame if a deal is not struck within a few days," said UML leader Jhalanath Khanal after the meeting.
He said top leaders have assured the president that political parties will sit for 'serious' talks in the afternoon.
The President also requested political party leaders to reach a package deal to end political and constitutional deadlock within the next two day so as to conduct next Constituent Assembly elections.
The Head of the State also told the political party leaders that the inability of the government to fulfill the vacant positions in judiciary and constitutional bodies in the absence of the parliament has created problems in the effective running of the state.
